Introducing Layering Modern Poinsettias Stencil

Welcomem we are onto our 3rd introduction for Uniko's Christmas in July release. Today we focus on a brand new layering stencil based on a previously released stamp set.

Here's a simple idea using Layering Modern Poinsettias and Festive Sentiments.

There are 5 layers to this, building up the layers as you go. I chose to use the Pink Cosmos set from Altenew for my inks to colour the main image as they come in graded colours, perfect for layering, along with their Olive ink for the green sepals. Mustard Seed DI was used for the centers and dots. I tried to get some additional dimension by concentrating the ink towards the center of the large poinsettias.

Once I'd inked my panel, it was trimmed down and my simple sentiment added in black. It's such a fab stencil I didn't think it needed more!

Introducing Rustic Snowflake

Morning and welcome to day 2 of the introductions for Uniko's Christmas in July release.

Today our focus is on the Rustic Snowflake stamp set whose style you may recognise from other sets in the Rustic series. Here's what I made, the set comes with some sentiments and a few smaller snowflakes which I haven't used for this design.

I had a few bits of homemade watercolour DP left over from an earlier make here, but not enough for a swing card. So I just made a simple square card, stamping and embossing in white onto a previously diecut panel. This was mounted onto white then added to my base panel. The whole coloured panel was then added to my square white base card. As kit was quite busy I left of any greeting which can easily go on the inside of the card.

Introducing Ink & Flip Christmas Star

Morning all.

It's day 1 of Uniko's Christmas in July release introductions.

Today Bev and the BAs are focusing on an brand new Ink n Flip design, Christmas Star. Here's what I did.

I've kept it very simple as the stencil speaks for itself, a simple gold star using Mustard Seed DI and some jewelled gold EP powder for the center and sentiment on a white base card.

Uniko June release in July!

Evening, just popping by with the last of my use it up cards from the Uniko June release.

I had a few bits leftover from last week's release and was determined to use every last bit!

Here's the final make incorporating Waffle Flower's postage die cut frame.

 

I used the leftovers from my Chevron Duo stencil panels to fill in the gaps on the panel, adding a Big n Bold Happy sentiment and a few silver die cut dots.

A very simple design that was basically made from leftovers! It's also a reminder that there is just over a week for your entries into the Uniko FB VIP Challenge where the theme is stencils!

Release Day @ Uniko

Morning all, it's release day at Uniko!!

Here are just a few more ideas using the new June release.

Have you ever thought about the off cuts that are leftover when you trim a stencilled panel down to the size you want for a project? Well I thought exactly that when I had lots of little strips left over from this month's projects. This first card uses the BB Scramble ThankYou and some inky strips from The Chevron Duo stencil.

In my earlier post I used DI in Salty Ocean and Peacock Feathers to create some stencilled panels but I needed some contrast for some of the letters so on some plain scrap card, I used some Picked Raspberry DI to create a mini panel which I over stamped the Thank You image. For the turquoisey stencilling, I used a different method and cut up the thin strips and stamped them by inking the stamp and pressing the card over the letter I wanted. All the letters were then fussy cut. On another scrap of white, I stamped the Scramble Thank You in black, coloured the flower with Copics and placed the fussy cut letters on top. Still not quite happy, I added Peacock Feathers to a couple of the blue letters and more Picked Raspberry to the two pink letters before glueing them down.

My panel was trimmed and added to a leftover piece of the holographic card from earlier and mounted the whole lot onto an A6 white note card.

This second card uses the scraps from Ink n Flip Triangulate woven to give an abstract pattern.

I did cut some of the leftovers into smaller strips to ensure I had enough to fill the apperture, finally weaving them together to get this effect. The woven panel was laid over the opening and glued into place before flipping it over and adding the Bauhaus Blocks sentiment and a few die cut black dots. The finished panel was then added to the base card on foam pads.

Finally I have this card which uses the left over panel from the Modern Floral layered stencil.

I followed an old Jennifer McGuire tutorial over on You Tube for the layout.

Sentiment is from Pure Florals Peony, embossed and fussy cut and the text strip is Everyday Sentiments stamped in Picked Raspberry.

Introducing Ink n Flip Chevron Duo Stencil

It's the final day of the intros for Uniko's June release. Today we showcase a stencil duo that I've found to be so versatile in creating backgrounds. Here is one idea I came up with.

One of the stencils gives you the solid element of the chevron and the second the pattern. This panel was made using a combination of the two and some DI in Salty Ocean and Peacock Feathers. 

I started with the solid stencil, inking first with Peacock Feathers before flipping and repeating with Salty Ocean. Next I replaced the stencil with the patterned one and used Peacock Feathers then flipping and using Salty Ocean, to create this overall pattern.

I'd seen a card a few years ago that influenced this card I think but as per usual I can't find it, it must have stuck in my mind though! I cut the inked panel with an MFT rectangle die and added the sentiment panel, a mix of Happy from MCM Christmas and half of the Happy Birthday from  Anniversaire Arts Décoratifs. 

This second card uses the same stencil but inked in a slightly different way. 

Mounted down the middle of an A6 white note card, the strip was edged with a slither of holographic card along each edge, saves on card, and the sentiment panel added on foam pads. I've used Sentiments Outlined embossed in white on some matching blue card, filling in the open area of wonderful with an embossing pen before heat embossing again. The panel was mounted onto a scalloped die cut rectangle and a few punched stars complete.

Introducing Modern Blooms Layering Stencil

Morning all, it's day 3 of our introductions of Uniko's June release. Today we have a fab layering stencil for all you MCM followers, Modern Blooms.

Love the styalised blooms on this design of Bev's which I've teamed with a simple bold sentiment, Christmas and Birthday Sentiments.

Each layer allows you to add detail in a different colour, I've used a mix of DIs in Seedless Preserve, Picked Raspberry, Mustard Seed and Twisted Citron for the main elements. Whilst the stencil was in place I added some darker shades to the flowers and leaves. The Blue dots were Salty Ocean and the flower hilights Vintage Photo.

To make the panel have a softer feel, I added a soft inking of a matching colour over the flowers and leaves. The happy birthday was stamped in black and outlined freehand with a white gel pen for some added dimension and the completed panel added to my white A6 base card on foam pads.

Introducing Ink n Flip Stencil Triangulate

Good morning. As promised I'm back with day two of intros for Uniko's June release. Today we are focusing on another Ink n Flip stencil called Triangulate. As you can see from this example it's all about triangles!

I enjoyed playing with this stencil to see what I could create and the card is a result of rotating the stencil instead of flipping it! Four rotations and four colours, I don't know what made me choose these, I must have needed cheering up!

The inked panel was trimmed down to create square then a simple Doodle Flower sentiment added to a Greetery white die cut circle and layered onto a black and the white stacking circles. A perfect simple card for a bloke I think.

With the other half of my panel I made this simple card using one of my leftover die cut panels and a simple die cut sentiment.

That's just a couple of ideas but I'm sure the rest of the team have some brilliant ideas to inspire you, why not check them out?

Introducing Background Blocks Scramble

It's the first day of tntroductions for Uniko's June release. Today it's the turn of a Background Blocks stamp in the Scramble Series, Thank You. Here's one I idea I came up with.

On a panel of mixed media paper, I stamped and heat embossed the image with white EP. Then I added some Brusho crystals, Leaf Green, and spritzed with water to make the majic happen. I love how the colour just bursts when the water hits it. Using a dry brush, I removed the excess ink from inside each letter, then mopped again with a paper towel. When the panel was completely dry, I coloured each element with a watercolour marker brush pen, again in shades of yellow and green. My finished panel was then trimmed and added to a panel of coordinating green card before adding to an A6 note card.

Uniko June Release Sneak Peeks

Morning all, hope you had a good weekend.

This week Bev is introducing a new stamp and a trio of fabuluos and versatile stencils, here's a little bit of a sneak peek for you.

First up is this addition to the Background Block stable.

Regulars will perhaps recognise this style of stamp from a couple of other releases. The others have proved popular as they create a quick and simple cards.

The next is another of Bev's inventive Ink n Flip stencils that has been in use at a couple of the recent Uniko retreats.

Next up is a layering, floral stencil.

And finally another stencil duo that can be used individually or together to create fabulous all over backgrounds.

Uniko FB VIP Challenge Reminder

This months Uniko FB VIP Challenge is all about GEOMETRICS. Here is a design I came up with using some of the smaller stamps from lots of different sets and the Postage Die set from Waffle Flower.

I found a ready cut panel of white card in the die packaging, so used that to create my design. The stencil which comes with it was used for ease but I could have easily masked off each section before I added the background inking and stamping.

Each of my rectangles was inked with DI, either Salty Ocean, Peacock Feathers or Twisted Citron, then with the masking still in place, the stamp detail was added with the same ink. I used BB Pinstripe, BB Triangulate, Bee Happy, Balloon Bash, BB MOD Circle Builder and Uniko Style stamp sets

Finally all masking was removed and the sentiment stamped. Birthday and Christmas Sentiments and a few small silver die cut dots complete. The panel was matted onto some black card and then on pads onto a 5 x 7ich white base card.

There are lots of fab Uniko geometric themed stamps and stencils to use, if you don't have any, think outside the box. Looking forward to seeing all your different geometric designs in the FB VIP gallery!

Color Hues #131

Afternoon all.

We are over halfway through April so it's time for a brand new colour pairing from Color Hues. 

This time I've gone with a floral themed card using the colours and Uniko's Pure Florals Peony. What do you think?

To start, I used Altenew's Limestone ink stamped onto Mixed Media paper, to create a no line look, then I smooshed some of their other inks onto an acrylic sheet to use for a watercolour technique. I used Coral Berry, Grapevine and Coral Bliss for the petals and Olive, Moss and Evergreen for the stem and leaves.

Each petal was painted separately, first with plain water then with the paler Coral Bliss and darker Coral Berry, allowing the water to blend the colours. It's best to paint sections that don't touch one another to reduce the risk of colour bleeding until each section has dried. Some of the lightest areas had virtually no colour and the off white paper showed through to suggest hilights. I repeated the technique for the leaves, using first Olive then Moss.

To create an even greater sense of depth, I went back into the bloom, first with a damp brush, I wet the areas that needed to be in shadow before going in with the Grapevine ink. For the green shading I used the Evergreen ink. Once dry, I fussy cut it out and concentrated on my background. 

A Mama Elephant die was used to cut an eyelet panel from white card, then I removed the center with a rectangle die to create a frame. Using the magnets in my Misti, I held the frame and bloom down whilst I placed the greeting from Uniko's Originally Organic. Once happy with the placement, I removed the frame and bloom and stamped it in Memento London Fog. The frame and bloom were then glued to my A6 white base card.

Simple or Fussy 

I've never been happy throwing on the fripperies and embellishments, so this is as fancy as I go. I'm a simple girl at heart!!

Uniko Product Revisit

Morning, there's no March release from Uniko, so Bev and the other Uniko Brand Ambassadors are revisiting the two releases from earlier in the year.

I've chosen the fabulous Bauhaus Blocks Spring Layering Stencil for my focus, here are couple of ideas.

I started by covering an A6 panel of white card with the various elements of the stencils, using Cracked Pistachio, Picked Raspberry and Squeezed Lemonade Distress Oxides. When I had covered the white  panel, I realised that I had made an error in one of the flowers, so it stood out like a sore thumb, so not wanting to waste the panel I cut it up and made two cards!

This first card uses a part of the panel.

Another error was that my A6 panel wasn't, about 5mm too narrow! I had to make a decision and decided to use it, trimming it down so that it fit an A6 topfold note card, with a white border showing. To emphasise the gap, I added a panel of paper inked on my Gelli plate. I used the Squeezed Lemonade and Cracked Pistachio to give a kind of speckled effect. The Oxide inks blend so well like this, I prefer it to straight inking. The combination of yellow and the soft green gives a lovely spring feel to the card. A stamped and embossed sentiment completes.

Remember that error on my original panel, well here is what I made with that.

The error was front and central, so I just covered it with the sentiment! More of my Gelli plate paper and some Greetery dies complete.

Uniko VIP FB Challenge - Spring

Good morning.

As it's the 11th March, there's a new challenge over on Uniko's VIP Facebook page.

This time our theme is:-

SPRING

So anything associated with that season, just use Uniko products as your main focus. Here's my take using approprately, Spring Botanicals -Primrose.

 

 

Over at the Paper Players their theme is Rainbow Colours and at AAA Colourful the pic reminds me of a rainbow too, so I thought I would use that as my starting point. I know it's not quite April yet, so we can't have April showers but there's always a chance of one with hopefully a rainbow afterwards! 

Using the newly released Layering Rainbow stencil, I created a blended one for my vellum polyanths to sit over. They come in so many different colours, they really do look like a rainbow when spread out on the garden center benches. The ones in my garden have been in bloom for a few weeks now, mainly the bluey purple and white ones as the birds like to pinch the more colourful petals from the pinks and reds!

I stamped Spring Botanicals- Primrose in Versamark onto vellum and heat embossed with white EP before fussy cutting them out. On the reverse of the image I added some colour to the leaves and the flower centers with coloured pencils, arranging them over the rainbow, using the embossed lines to hide the glue. My sentiment is from Sping Botanicals - Tulip which I stamped in black.

Color Hues #128

Afternoon folks.

Where did February go? Well it's the first of the month so it's time for a new challenge from Color Hues. Here's my take on the new colour pairing.

 

I still had my Uniko layering rainbow stencil out on my desk when I sat down to make a card, so decided to use it in combination with this cheeky leprechaun that was lurking in the bottom of my finished colouring but 'what do I do with it now' box. I think, I had thought to use it for a card some time ago and then used something else. He's from a magazine, must be over 15 years ago now with a photocopiable page of 'magical' creatures. So I printed him off and coloured him with Copics and fussy cut him out. Getting the gold for his buttons and buckles was tricky, but there is a Copic called Lionet Gold, Y28, so used that and some paler ones from the sames group. 

The rainbow was inked using a selection of Altenew greens and the gold 'coins' are some very old Craftwork Cards card confetti, the sentiment is also from Uniko. Our Irish friend was then added on foam pads after I'd run a ball tool over him from the wrongside to give him some shape.

Birthday Release Day at Uniko

For this card I used the stencil to create the rainbow, moving it slightly between layers to get the overlapping colours. The overlap isn't perfect but you get the idea of a more blended rainbow. Another fussy cut Cloud 9 stencil cloud hides any misalignments. The sentiment from the stamp set was simply stamped in black and the rainbow coloured appropriately with Copic markers.

Bev is very proud of her innovative Ink & Flip Stencils and this one going to be a firm favourite I'm sure. Retro Flowers is a two layer stencil. One for the flowers and one for the flower centers. They can be used together or individually for even more creative options.

 For this card I used some leftover fussy cut blooms from yesterdays card and a few scraps of card and a Gelli plate print made at Art group that went wrong. 

 

I just love the way the lime green Gelli pull shimmers, the acrylic paint I used must have had been pearlescent! I also used an new to me die set from The Greetery which cuts the pattern, mount AND base card. I'd seen Aryth Percy-Robb use this technique in one of her You Tube videos and as I only had a few blooms decided to try. I used 4 blooms in total, 2 cut up into halves and 1 into quarters and arranged them onto my green panel along with a fussy cut thanks from Simply Said Blocks. This was mounted onto one of my die cut white panels and then onto a slightly larger one, edged with some matching Picked Raspberry DI, finally adding the whole onto my die cut base card.
